The bride was inspired by unique textures, dusty rose with a pop of deep pomegranate and bringing nature inside the tent. When designing the wedding I wanted to the guest to feel transported into the most lush botanical garden, it was really important to the couple to focus on guest experience and  details that were  uniquely them.  We mixed in a lush velvet rose quartz into the design to soften the look of the farm tables and chairs. This really played well into the textures of the floral and still allowing the floral chandelier to be the focal point. 

As a Michigan wedding planner, I had the pleasure of helping Hayley and Ron bring their dream wedding to life with a stunning tented reception on the rocky shores of Higgins Lake. This private residence, filled with meaningful details and personalized touches, was the perfect backdrop for the couple, who grew up spending summers at cottages on Higgins Lake and were friends since elementary school. Though they didn’t fall in love until college, their connection to the lake was always central to their relationship, so it was only fitting that their wedding took place at Ron’s family cabin on Higgins Lake.

From the start of wedding planning, Hayley and Ron knew they wanted to highlight the “Mitten” theme, a symbol of Michigan that also holds special meaning for them. Invitations by Caitlin created a custom monogram that incorporated an outline of Higgins Lake, their initials, and lush, wild greenery. This monogram became a unifying element throughout the day, appearing on invitations, custom bar signs, menus, Adirondack chairs, and even the ceremony programs.

The floral arrangements added a naturally elegant touch to the celebration. Bridal bouquets featured flowing silk ribbons and blooms styled to look like they were freshly picked from a garden. Guests enjoyed cocktails around the estate before being welcomed into a breathtaking sailcloth tent. The tent itself was adorned with lush smilax greenery, gold brass lanterns, and layered floral arrangements that created a warm and intimate atmosphere. Smilax lined the tent ceiling, while bistro lights intertwined with the greenery brought an enchanting glow to the setting as the sun began to set.

Inside, the reception focused on organic textures, with tables layered in lush floral arrangements and flickering taper candles that illuminated the space as the evening turned to night. The centerpiece of the tent was a stunning 12-foot floral chandelier that hung above an elegant buttercream wedding cake, adorned with large blooms. This natural design echoed Hayley and Ron’s shared love for exploring and the great outdoors.

In another nod to their Michigan roots, Hayley and Ron’s bar featured a Michigan Moscow Mule, served in copper mugs and topped with a Traverse City Whiskey Co. cherry. The couple’s families added a personal touch by creating custom shelving for the bars, where copper mugs were arranged to create an inviting display for guests. As a special thank-you, guests received a bottle of Michigan red or white wine, customized with a personal label from the couple, displayed on rustic wine barrels near the tent.

Hayley and Ron’s wedding day reflected their genuine love for each other, their family, and the beauty of Michigan. Their relaxed, joyful approach to their celebration served as an inspiring reminder to focus on love and connection. This Northern Michigan wedding on Higgins Lake was an unforgettable day filled with thoughtful touches that highlighted the couple’s deep roots in the Mitten State.
