While Michigan weddings will always be at the heart of what we do, we were thrilled to travel to Texas to celebrate Emma and Burke’s destination wedding at The Preserve at Canyon Lake. This wedding was especially meaningful to our team because its story began long before the engagement. Stephanie and Emma met in college, back when Stephanie was just beginning her career as a wedding planner. At the time, she jokingly promised that she would help plan Emma’s wedding someday. Years later, after Emma moved to Texas and met Burke, it was clear that this would became a reality.

Planning a wedding in a new state meant building relationships with a new venue and vendor team, and we welcomed the opportunity. The Preserve at Canyon Lake, located just north of San Antonio, is a beautiful estate with rolling hills, an abundance of trees, and a peaceful setting that reminded us of some of our favorite Northern Michigan venues. The venue also provided countless locations for portraits, with both indoor and outdoor spaces that highlighted the natural beauty of the property. And as we quickly discovered, snakes!

The property offered everything needed for a seamless wedding weekend, from its on-site chapel to a shaded outdoor cocktail hour overlooking the grounds. One of the most memorable details of the day was the pair of floral-adorned burros that greeted guests during cocktail hour. Carrying baskets of drinks, they quickly became a guest favorite, giving everyone the chance to grab a refreshment, snap a few photos, and say hello. As the sun set, the celebration continued with line dancing, conversations around the bonfire, and a cookie bar that guests couldn’t stop talking about (and us)!

Being part of Emma and Burke’s wedding day was incredibly special, not only because it marked our first wedding together in Texas, but because it felt like the planning began all those years ago in college. We’re so grateful to have been part of their celebration and look forward to helping more couples bring their destination wedding vision to life, wherever their story takes them.
