Katie and Ben’s Grand Rapids wedding was an especially meaningful one for our team at Mitten Weddings. Our lead coordinator, Stephanie, has known Katie since their freshman year of college, so being part of this season of her life felt full circle. As a Michigan wedding planner, it is always an honor to support our couples, but celebrating a longtime friendship made this day even more memorable.

The ceremony took place in Grand Rapids, followed by a reception at The High Five GR, a venue known for its warm, rustic atmosphere and spacious layout. For a mid October wedding in West Michigan, it offered the perfect balance of cozy and refined. The exposed brick, wood accents, and open floor plan gave guests plenty of room to gather, dine, and celebrate comfortably.

Michigan weather in the fall can be unpredictable, but Katie and Ben were fortunate. A looming storm held off just long enough for portraits around the church and a nearby fire station, a meaningful nod to Ben’s career in law enforcement. The timing could not have worked out better. The rain finally arrived late in the evening, well after all outdoor photos were complete.

The reception was thoughtfully designed to reflect the couple’s story. Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner followed by donuts, a playful tribute to Ben and many of the couple’s friends and family who also serve as police officers. The personal touches throughout the day made the celebration feel authentic and connected to the people who matter most to them.
